What’s in My Grocery Bags (#5) + Weekly Meal Plan

in Other

I think (?) you guys have been enjoying my recent posts about my grocery hauls, so I am planning to continue sharing them a couple of times each month.  I like to assume that I am not the only complete weirdo out there who likes to snoop in others’ pantries, refrigerators, and grocery carts.  Lucky for you, I am going to make the snooping part extra easy.  You can sneak a peek inside of my grocery bags from last weekend and nobody will even know!

Groceries 11615What’s in My Grocery Bags (January 25, 2015)

Groceries 2My first stop in the grocery store: the produce aisle!  I picked up tons of fresh produce, including: rainbow chard, sweet potatoes, a green pepper, onions, cauliflower, kale, spinach, and mushrooms.  That was just the veggies!

Groceries 4My fruit purchases included: strawberries, dried prunes, bananas, and apples.

Groceries 3I did not need much to stock my fridge and freezer, but I purchased: almond milk, hummus, frozen spinach, and Alexia french fries (they were on sale and I had a coupon!).

Groceries 5I had quite a few pantry staples to stock up on, including: vegetable broth, chickpeas and cannellini beans, turmeric, cashew milk (I wanted to try something new!), diced tomatoes, salsa, ground ginger, quick oats, and green chiles.

WIAW 1Finally, I could not pass up some of my favorite snack foods: popcorn (of course), a new broccoli florets snack from TJ’s (I thought they were okay, but not awesome), kale chips, and brown rice snaps.  The onion and garlic flavor might be my new favorite variety!

I shopped at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Sam’s Club for everything seen above.  My grand total was somewhere around $84.00.  Lucky for me, I had $30 in Whole Foods gift cards.  Only paying $54.00 out of pocket felt a lot better!

*This grocery haul was from last week and does not correspond with the coming week’s meal plan.

Weekly Meal Plan for the Week of January 26, 2015

Monday: Loaded BBQ Black Bean & Pineapple Potato Skins (recipe to come)
Tuesday: Jamaican Jerk Tempeh with peppers and rice
Wednesday: Spicy Wasabi Chickpea Salad on rice cakes + veggies
Thursday: Dinner with my girlfriends
Friday: Veggie burgers from my freezer + veggies
Saturday: Lentil Tempeh “Reuben” Bowl
Sunday: Spaghetti Squash with Vegan Tomato Basil Cream Sauce

I should be all set for a healthy and delicious week.  Hopefully you gathered some recipe ideas for your own meal plan, and have a few new food items to add to your grocery list.  Have a great rest of your weekend!  May your Sunday meal prep (if you partake) be quick and enjoyable!

Eek! I hardly shop at Whole Foods. We have Sprouts, which is a lifesaver and of course, Trader Joe's. I need to make another spaghetti squash!
    • ClnEatingVegGrl January 25, 2015, 10:56 am
I have heard awesome things about Sprouts. I wish we had one here! And YES to spaghetti squash. I am trying to get my fix before it is out of season :(

That is a great haul for $84! I want to try WF's Cashew Milk, interested to hear what you think of it! Cassie @ Almost Getting it Together recently posted...Now Trending – Best Links Week of 1.19My Profile

I am hoping I like it! If not, I'll just throw it into smoothies. I'm obsessed with cashew "cheese" and cashew butter, though, so I think I'll like it!

Omg I LOVE Alexia fries! Glad I'm not the only one! Have you tried the chipotle sweet potato ones?? They are hard to find but so yummy! Man I can't believe you have different dinners every night! Do you just use the leftovers for lunch? Or do you only make enough to eat?
    • ClnEatingVegGrl January 25, 2015, 11:00 am
I have not tried the chipotle sweet potato ones, but I have heard several people talk about them. I'll keep my eyes peeled for them! I normally make enough for 2-3 servings and then eat the leftovers for lunch. It works really well for me :)

I have to do a major food shop today -- it snowed yesterday so I didn't go and it's supposed to now snow Monday, Tuesday, Wedneday in a major way. I hope the forecast is wrong and I hope I don't forget anything that I need! meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles recently posted...Running, Pure Barre But No Black Bean BrowniesMy Profile

Oh geez, what a pain! I bet the stores will be a nightmare, too! :( I used to work at a grocery store and it was always nuts when there was snow in the forecast.
  • Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine January 25, 2015, 6:32 am
Um, those potato skins......WANT that recipe ;) It just sounds so perfect!
    • ClnEatingVegGrl January 25, 2015, 11:03 am
They were pretty darn delicious! I made them yesterday and am eating leftovers tomorrow night. I hope to share them soon :)

Meal Plan Great idea! I need to do more of that! And cook on weekends too so that on busy weekdays meals are easy and quick!
    • ClnEatingVegGrl January 25, 2015, 3:03 pm
Meal planning and Sunday Meal Prep are both LIFESAVERS for me! I highly recommend trying it out!

I hope you enjoy the cashew milk, it is my new favorite. The brand I tried was Silk. I don't think I will go back to almond milk.
    • ClnEatingVegGrl January 25, 2015, 3:05 pm
Oh, that is exciting to hear! I'll have to try out the Silk brand too!

Hannah, great shopping. We have a Whole Foods market 3 blocks from our house and go all the time, however I can't do big shopping since we are a family of four and it is just too pricey. But going for some special items or quick meals it's our fave place to go. Lynda@fitnessmomwinecountry recently posted...Tom Brady You Prefer Small Balls, Just Own ItMy Profile

Oh how lucky you are! Granted, if I had a Whole Foods that close to me, I would probably get in lots of trouble. It's so easy to spend a lot there ;)
  • AJ @ NutriFitMama January 25, 2015, 3:06 pm
Your meal plan looks great. Whole Foods is literally our only healthy food store to shop at out here- which is crazy to me! I am used to having options. My closest TJ's is 40 min or so away..but I try to get there when I can. It's my fav. AJ @ NutriFitMama recently posted...Healthy Travel Spotlight- Amelia Island FloridaMy Profile

Bummer about TJ's, but at least you have Whole Foods! I can't imagine not living near one of them since I am so used to it now!

Cashew milk????? Add that to the list of foods we can't get over here and the one saying "I'll try it when [note: not IF :) ] I make it to the US one day". I wish I was organized enough to get all grocery shopping done in one fellow swoosh. Instead, I run to the store for one or two odd ingredients every other day during the week. Yes! Cashew milk! I'm so excited to try it. I hope you are able to try it someday :)
  • Angela January 25, 2015, 7:18 pm
Please do a review of the cashew milk when you try it! I've been debating about whether to purchase it over here, but only the sweetened Silk one is available (I think Silk does not make unsweetened yet)
    • ClnEatingVegGrl January 25, 2015, 7:33 pm
I will let you know what I think! I am also eager to try the Silk version too!
  • Em @ Love A Latte January 29, 2015, 3:07 pm
Our grocery lists are very similar! And I'd eat all of your meals...omg they sound so good. I think I'm having earth balance mac & cheese with kale for dinner tonight lol...
    • ClnEatingVegGrl January 29, 2015, 5:04 pm
Oooo, I hadn't thought to add kale to mac and cheese. Awesome idea!! Is the Earth Balance mac and cheese pretty good? I haven't tried it yet.
      • Em @ Love A Latte January 29, 2015, 6:53 pm
It's so good!! Especially the orange cheddar kind. I mix in lots of greens and then add the cheese and it is so good! Thank you, earth balance.
        • ClnEatingVegGrl January 29, 2015, 9:10 pm
Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to buy that the next time a craving hits!
