About Me

Hi there!  Welcome to my little corner of the “blogosphere.”  My name is Hannah and I am a 20-something born and raised small-town Iowan now living in the much bigger Iowa City, IA area.  I work in higher education by day and am a blogger by early morning/night/weekend…basically whenever I have a free moment to spare.  I love veggies (seriously), nut butter, trying new restaurants, cooking, food photography, writing, craft beer (just not right now… boo gluten-free), traveling, my puppy dogs, and my family and friends.  I hope to share a little bit of all of that here with you!

about me

I began this blog in August of 2012 as a creative outlet and as a way to share my experiences within the world of mostly plant-based eating.  Through negative experiences with acid reflux disease, orthorexia, and now unexplained chronic joint and muscle pain, I have dipped my toes into many areas within the realm of food.  I became a vegetarian in January of 2012 cold turkey (no pun intended), adopted a mostly vegan diet from 2013-2015, and have now begun slowly incorporating seafood and meat back into my diet while eliminating gluten (soon to be all grains).  You can read more about my decisions to eat fish and meat here and here, and my decision to cut out gluten here.

I have come to find that labeling my “diet” is not beneficial to me or to others.  Rather, I prefer to describe myself as a whole foods lover who does her best to eat plenty of fruits and veggies, lean proteins, and healthy fats.  The other 10-15% of the time you will find me eating a slice of cheese pizza, enjoying some ice cream, and discovering new ways to cook and eat seafood and meat.  I want to keep things as simple as possible, eat whole foods whenever I can, and learn to treat myself more.

I am happy you are here to follow along in my journey of healthy cooking and eating and figuring out which foods my body loves (and doesn’t love)!  I promise to share delicious vegan, vegetarian, pescetarian, and meat recipes, to tell you what’s up in the restaurant scene, and to let you in on this thing that I call life.  It is sure to be a bumpy and wild ride, but I can almost guarantee that it will be a delicious one!
