After a couple of weeks of reading other bloggers’ posts, I am finally linking up with Becky’s Treat Yourself Tuesday link-up today! I spent a wonderful weekend with my dad this past weekend, and we both definitely treated ourselves…mostly to some really good food! Let’s take a look, shall we?
For lunch on Saturday, my dad and I headed to a downtown Omaha restaurant called Block 16. Block 16’s motto is that they have “farm to table street food.” I checked out the menu ahead of time and noticed that they had both meat-eater and vegetarian/vegan-friendly food, so I was pumped to try it out! The restaurant was small and quaint and packed with plenty of customers. That is usually a good sign, right?
My dad ordered the Block 16 burger with a side of french fries.
He ate it all and said that it was very good. Messy, but good. Usually the best food is messy, right? 😉
I ordered the vegan version of the Philly Steak Sandwich. It was made with a lentil-based “meat” and a tofu-based “cheese”…all topped off with mushrooms, peppers, and onions.
I really enjoyed this sandwich. She asked if I wanted it “spicy” and I said no because I was a little afraid ;). Next time, though, I think that I will order the spicy version. And yes, there will be a next time! It was good…and the fries were great! I dipped them in their special fry sauce (amazing!) and ate up every last bite.
On Saturday evening my dad needed to carb-load for his big Omaha Marathon race on Sunday morning. We ate dinner at Vivace Contemporary Italian Restaurant in downtown Omaha.
My dad ordered pasta with marinara sauce and meatballs.
I ordered the Grilled Vegetable Salad. It included hearts of Romaine lettuce, mushrooms, asparagus, zucchini, yellow squash, ricotta stuffed tomatoes, pesto sauce, and quinoa salad. I really enjoyed this meal…oh, and I treated myself to several servings from the bread basket, too!
On Sunday morning we woke up bright and early so my dad could run the Omaha Marathon.
I met him on the course at about mile 22, and then caught back up with him at the finish.
He finished the 26.2 miles in 3 hours and 40.07 minutes. Very impressive!!
After he rested up a bit, we drove out to Wheatfield’s, one of my favorite brunch restaurants.
My dad ordered the hot roast beef sandwich (sorry no picture!) and I stuck with breakfast food (even though it was nearly 2 in the afternoon ;)).
I enjoyed 2 over-easy eggs (yay for runny yolks!), hashbrowns with ketchup,
and five-grain toast with their amazingly delicious bumbleberry jam. It definitely hit the spot.
My dad and I ended the weekend with one final treat (and it’s a good one!): Chipotle. My dad had never eaten there, so I knew that I had to introduce him to the goodness of it.
He ordered the chicken burrito bowl and I got the vegetarian salad.
Look at all of that guac! Oh, and I have some exciting news for the vegetarians out there. The pinto beans are no longer cooked with bacon! I was just a wee bit excited about this news.
All and all it was a very successful weekend! My dad ran an awesome time and we ate some delicious food. I most definitely treated myself :). Did you?
