Omaha Eats: Kitchen Table
I had a great dinner and a fabulous dinner date last Thursday night! I heard about a new restaurant in Omaha a few weeks ago called Kitchen Table and instantly knew that I wanted to try it. And when Erin moved to town about two weeks ago, we knew that we needed to connect and meet up. So I thought, why not combine the two? It turned out to be a great decision, if I do say so myself!
*Oh, and for the heads up, all of the GOOD pictures are due in part to Erin! Her camera pictures easily beat my cell phone pictures ;).
Upon walking up to the restaurant, I just knew that it was going to be an environment that I would love. The restaurant features comfortable seating, cute decor, and is all around very quaint. It definitely had a very organic and fresh feel. There were fresh flowers on all of the tables and the water glasses were made from mason jars. I mean seriously, how can you not love that? Erin and I were both really pleased with the experience before we had even tried the food!
How cute is this restaurant? And how cute are these people? Haha…I kid! 😉
Erin and I did not end up ordering food for about 15 to 20 minutes because we were so excited to finally be able to meet and we got a little caught up in our chit-chat. I had a really tough time ordering. Kitchen Table, which serves “slow fast food,” has an every day menu with several awesome sounding snacks, sandwiches, and soups, and then they feature daily lunch and dinner specials. Their food menu caters to meat-eaters and vegetarians (which is what first attracted me to the place), and most dishes can be made vegan, too! After some contemplation, Erin and I both decided to order the dinner special: creamy chard and potato tacos served with pasilla salsa and salsa seca, a side of greens with cilantro, and beans with feta cheese.
My eyes were so happy and excited when my plate was brought to me. I just knew that this was going to be a good meal before I even dug in. And, let me just say, I was not disappointed. Erin and I really enjoyed the tacos and beans…a lot! They were slightly messy, so we ending up eating our meals with forks. But hey, messy usually mean delicious, right? Erin and I both cleaned our plates and then dug into these:
That’s right. That is a cornmeal bourbon blondie. Erin was so sweet and bought each of us one. And man, was it good! I swear I could have eaten the entire pan, but I just stuck with one! It was a delicious dessert to round out a super tasty dinner.
I had such a great dinner and an awesome time meeting my first blogger in person. Erin and I really hit it off and the conversation flowed so easily. I guess that is what happens when you have so much in common. Us food bloggers just get one another. Oh, and we aren’t embarrassed by one another when taking countless pictures of our food ;). Blogger meet-ups are just plain fun. I am so glad to have met Erin and cannot wait to hang out with her more and explore more awesome Omaha restaurants together! One thing that is almost a given is that Erin and I will most definitely be making many more visits to Kitchen Table in the future. When you find a good restaurant with a fabulous atmosphere and delicious food, it is hard not to want to go back right away!
If you live in the Omaha area, make sure to check out Kitchen Table’s Facebook page. They post pictures daily of their specials and they seriously make my mouth water every single time! Oh, and go check out Erin’s blog while you’re at it, too!
