WIAW #2

in Other

It is that time of the week….time for “What I Ate Wednesday.”  September’s theme is “Fall Into Good Habits.”

Breakfast

Whenever I eat cereal I always mix up my own combination in order to keep things interesting each morning.  The essential cereal that always goes into my bowl is Kashi GoLean Original cereal.  One serving of this cereal contains 13 grams of protein (I am sure you have seen the commercials advertising that the cereal contains “as much protein as an egg!”), 10 grams of fiber (to keep you full!), 8 grams of whole grain, and only 1 gram of fat….great stats AND its delicious!  This morning I also added in some Crispix cereal and some Corn Flakes (both low in calories, fat, and sugar).  I do not put milk in my cereal.  Instead, I use Silk unsweetened vanilla almond milk.  I am a big fan of both unsweetened vanilla almond milk and soy milk.  On the side I had one kiwi.

Lunch

For pre-lunch I packed 1 banana.  I usually eat this about 3-4 hours into my work shift in order to tide me over until lunch.  On my lunch break I had leftover vegetarian chili from Monday night w/ 2 wheat crackers and 1 sliced granny smith apple.  Let me just say, the chili was SO GOOD!  I LOVE chili on the second day…or the third day, in my case. 😉

Dinner

For tonight’s dinner I prepared a salad with Dole Very Veggie salad mix (lettuce, carrots, red cabbage, snow peas, and radishes) and added packaged cole slaw (without the dressing), 1 sliced carrot, diced yellow onion, diced red pepper, and diced zucchini.  I topped the salad with Wishbone light balsamic basil vinaigrette dressing.  On the side I prepared a “baked” sweet potato (in the microwave) and topped it with salsa.  I am a huge fan of sweet potatoes as part of a meal or as a snack.

Snacks

My snacks for the day included: baby carrots w/ artichoke and garlic hummus, a 100 calorie pack of Emerald cocoa roasted almonds (these are amazing!! &  pretty much the only pre-packaged “100 calorie” snack that I will eat), fresh-cut cantaloupe and raspberries, cooked green beans w/ sea salt, and a few Food Should Taste Good sweet potato chips (Can you tell I love sweet potatoes?  You seriously must try any of the FSTG chips – amazing!).  This may seem like a lot of snacks, but because I eat healthy meals throughout the day, I am able to eat a lot of snacks.  Plus, most of these snacks are pretty healthy/low-calorie.  This is great for me because I am a huge snacker, especially in the evening!

Speaking of snacks…..remember the Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt I told you about last week?  Well…I tried the vanilla flavor last night and…it was SOOO GOOD!  It almost tasted a little bit like vanilla frosting 🙂  I added some fresh raspberries and it was the perfect snack.

What good habits would you like to “fall into” this month?
