What I Ate Wednesday: August 12, 2015

in Other

I skipped out on the last couple of What I Ate Wednesday posts since my reduced blogging “schedule” went into effect, but I am back today with a full day of eats.  I finished up the Whole 30 about a week ago, and while I am continuing to eat mostly Whole 30-compliant, I am allowing myself some Paleo pancakes, smoothies, banana ice cream, wine, etc. now and then.  It’s all about balance, right?

For today’s WIAW post, I am sharing what my post-Whole 30 eats looked like this past Saturday back at home.  The day was filled with engagement pictures and time spent at my friend’s quarry.  Oh, and plenty of tasty eats!

What I Ate WednesdayWhat I Ate Wednesday: August 12, 2015

almond butter bananaJeremy and I had engagement pictures at 7:30 in the morning… which meant I was awake at 5:45 on a Saturday morning to get ready.  I was so happy that we went early, though, because it ended up raining some later on in the day and got quite warm.  As you can imagine, I was not super hungry when I woke up.  I ate a banana topped with crunchy almond butter while I got ready.  I figured this would tide me over until second breakfast.

eggs and veggiesSecond breakfast was eaten around 10:00 when we arrived home from pictures.  I ate two crispy fried eggs in coconut oil topped with pepper and some raw carrots and celery on the side.

chicken apple sausage potato brussel sproutsObviously breakfast #1 and #2 did not fill me up a ton (or maybe it was simply because I had woken up so early), but I was ready for lunch by 12:15.  I ate a leftover grilled chicken and apple sausage, a baked sweet potato (in the microwave) topped with crunchy almond butter, and steamed brussels sprouts.  I am kind of obsessed with this lunch and cannot wait to make it again.  Plus, it was super easy.  Win-win!

apricot La CroixRight after lunch, Jeremy and I headed to the quarry to hang out with one of my best friends and her husband.  It was a pretty warm and muggy day, so I tried my best to stay hydrated.  This apricot flavor is my favorite La Croix flavor ever.  I have yet to find one that I think is better.  Granted, there are about a million flavors, so I still have plenty more to try.

almondsI snacked on raw almonds and an unpictured apple during the afternoon.  I absolutely adore these pre-portioned packages of almonds from Trader Joe’s.  They are convenience at its finest.

grilled cabin dinner paleoI kept my dinner Whole 30-compliant by bringing along all of my own food.  I ate a grilled burger topped with a quarter of a not very good avocado, raw cucumber slices and carrots, cantaloupe, raspberries, and plenty of plantain chips.  I always need to have a little crunch!

Apothic red wineAnd there is my first non-Whole 30 item of the day.  A couple of glasses of Apothic Red wine.  This was my first alcoholic drink since I began the Whole 30 in July, and it was every bit as delicious as I anticipated it would be.

coconut cream LarabarAfter we arrived home around 10:00, I rounded out my evening with a before bedtime snack: a coconut cream pie Larabar.  I think this is probably my favorite flavor to date.

While this is a #lifeafterWhole30 post, really the only thing non-Whole 30 was the wine.  It turns out Whole 30 eats aren’t all that bad and I still like eating them the majority of the time.

I did not do an entire post dedicated to the engagement, so that could be why. Either way, thank you!!

I'm quite certain that nut/seed butters were invented to be paired with bananas ;) It is such a good combo!

Whew, the Whole 30 plan sounds tough. I can't imagine sticking to a food regimen like that. I'm way too fond of my ice cream. Kudos to you though for doing it. Happy WIAW and thanks for linking up.

It certainly isn't the easiest thing ever, but I have found it to be easier than I anticipated... thank goodness! I have been missing ice cream though ;)

I recently started having my husband do the grocery shopping since he has a really great grocery store right next to his work. I put Berry La Croix water on the list, but he said he couldn't find it. Instead he bought me Apple Berry and Cherry Lime. I didn't even know they did these flavors! Haven't tried Cherry Lime yet, but Apple Berry is delicious. So grocery shopping is staying his job now.
    • ClnEatingVegGrl August 12, 2015, 8:49 am
It sounds like he did an awesome job! I have not tried either of those two flavors, but they both sound delicious. I'll be on the lookout for them!

Sweet potato + almond butter is a new combo for me. Sounds great. Congratulations on completing Whole30 -I made it two weeks before I caved (I was nursing at the time and it was taxing on my supply) I am looking forward to giving it 100% once nursing is done. I'm not a fan of flavored water or of Larabars (remind me too much of Fig Newtons, shudder). Sounds like you had a great weekend, how fun getting your engagement pictures done! sara recently posted...WIAW #4 Epic Calorie DayMy Profile

Hi Hannah! I love to see your Whole 30 meals, and it's neat to know that you don't have to stray too far from it now that it's done. I was on a huge sweet potato kick for months and months, and haven't had one now in three weeks. Clearly I need to go back to them, and I usually pair my tater with eggs and veggies or top it with almond butter like you did. Nice work! • Cathy August 14, 2015, 10:19 am
In another post you stated that you were nightshade free. What do you mean by that? That is poison! Do some foods have that?
    • ClnEatingVegGrl August 14, 2015, 11:30 am
"Nightshade" foods include things like white potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, all peppers, and spices like cayenne pepper, paprika, and curry. They are known to be inflammatory to the body (for some people), which is why I am trying to go without for awhile to see if it has a positive effect for me. I hope that helps to answer your question!
      • Cathy August 14, 2015, 12:37 pm
Thank you for your reply. It helps me understand what "nightshade" means.
        • ClnEatingVegGrl August 14, 2015, 12:39 pm
You bet! I'm glad it helped.
  • SusaNR August 29, 2015, 2:08 pm
Are these veggie sausages and veggie burgers? Not criticizing, just confused. Sorry I thought this was a veg blog.
    • ClnEatingVegGrl August 29, 2015, 7:17 pm
They are not. I transitioned away from vegetarianism close to a year ago for health reasons.
