What I Ate Wednesday: January 21, 2015

in Other

Happy Wednesday, friends!  How about we skip the random awkward WIAW post intro and just get right to the eats!  Sound good?

What I Ate WednesdayWhat I Ate Wednesday: January 21, 2015
(I’m linking up with Jenn at Peas and Crayons)

WIAW 7My morning started out like any other: with a green smoothie!  In the mix was unsweetened vanilla almond milk, vanilla Vega One, frozen banana, frozen spinach, and tons of fresh spinach.  I wouldn’t start my mornings out any other way!

WIAW 3I was not overly hungry for second breakfast, so I simply munched on some of these onion garlic brown rice snaps.  I am a big fan of these.

WIAW 2Lunch was leftover bean burgers on lettuce buns and topped with sriracha (more on the burgers in a future FFF post).  I ate a dill pickle and french fries dipped in ketchup on the side.

WIAW 3It just isn’t an afternoon unless an apple is involved.  Lately, I have been loving galas.

WIAW 2A couple of months back, I signed up to receive a free Luna bar in the mail.  It really comes as no surprise that I enjoyed this flavor since I love peanuts and caramel!

WIAW 4Dinner was a random hodge podge, and the result of not wanting to cook.  I fried up two eggs (topped with sriracha), roasted some sweet potato fries, and sautéed rainbow chard in a bit of vegetable broth, black pepper, and turmeric.  I think turmeric is my new favorite spice.  I have been throwing it in everything!

WIAW 4My after dinner snack consisted of several (that sounds better than “tons of”) handfuls of this barbecue popcorn.  It absolutely tastes as good as it sounds!

As you can see, I tried to keep the processed snacks balanced out by the veggie-packed whole food main meals.  Moderation is the key!

Have a great Wednesday, everyone.  Make sure you eat something delicious!

Right now I am obsessed with Pacific Rose apples! They are perfectly in-season right now so I am packing them in while they last!

Gosh, I don't know if I have tried those yet or not. I know I have heard of them. I'll have to be on the lookout at the grocery stores!

Ok - Jeff and I want to start doing a smoothie a day again, and we want to add greens. Our Ninja doesn't do the best with greens (still a little flaky/grainy). In your experience, is there a better ingredient to use over others (more easily blendable)? Like kale vs. spinach, etc? I would think that spinach would definitely be the easiest to blend. Kale and chard are a bit tougher. Have you tried using frozen spinach at all? Not sure if that will help or make it worse, but it's worth a try?

Oh Hannah, I am so envious of those fries right now! With the 8 pounds I put on over the Christmas break (this is what happens when you visit home for 4 weeks...) I am on a low fat, no oil diet. So no super fun things for me for a few weeks until I get back into a normal exercise routine!

As far as frozen fries goes, Alexia fries are definitely some of the best! I say go for it and treat yourself to some with some veggie burgers :)

I use the Ninja Ultima. It is pretty affordable as far as high powered blenders go!

Hi! I'm going to implement green smoothies into my diet ...super excited to get my bullet from amazon on Friday! How much protein powder do you put in your smoothies?
    • ClnEatingVegGrl January 21, 2015, 1:02 pm
That's great! I don't measure by the scoop that the package provides. Instead, I usually just throw in about 2 tablespoons. I recommend experimenting with the amounts to see what tastes the best to you. I hope that helps!

Second breakfast. Haha. I love your posts! =)
    • ClnEatingVegGrl January 21, 2015, 1:29 pm
Thanks, Miranda! Second breakfasts are a MUST for me or I might eat my hand off between first breakfast and lunch ;)

isn't writing the intro to a blog post sometimes the hardest thing? and I really liked that LUNA bar flavor too. Good for a snack. Katie @ running4cupcakes recently posted...BODYPUMP 92 {review}My Profile

I'm glad I am not the only one who has major writer's block when it comes to writing intros. Sometimes they come easily, but normally I always really struggle (especially with WIAW posts!).

Random hodge podge dinners are the best sometimes. Especially if they involve eggs and sweet potato fries- yum! And I always have to eat an apple a day too. I love honeycrisps but their season must be ending because I can't find them anymore. Sad. :(
    • ClnEatingVegGrl January 21, 2015, 1:33 pm
I really like honeycrisps too... but they are SO expensive most of the time so I rarely buy them :(
  • Alexis @ Hummusapien January 21, 2015, 1:31 pm
Turmeric is so amazing! We just started making turmeric mylk at Alchemy and it's a hit :)
    • ClnEatingVegGrl January 21, 2015, 1:34 pm
I haven't tried that, but I have heard of others drinking it. You should do a post about it so that I can learn the specifics for how you make it! ;)

BBQ popcorn!?! That sounds yummy! Sometimes random dinners are my favorite. Plus it feels good to use up some leftovers. Hate wasting food! Dana | fresh simple five recently posted...What I Ate WednesdayMy Profile

YES barbecue popcorn!!! It is the BEST! I totally get what you are saying about random dinners. I feel the same way about wasting food, so it's nice to go in without a plan and use up whatever is in my fridge!

Coincidence! I've gone through a phase of adding turmeric to just about every savoury dish, too. Then I heard more about its amazing health benefits and felt like a winner, haha. I think the best part is that you can't taste it much at all when mixed with other flavors. Miss Polkadot recently posted...Dear Kate Moss [What skinny really feels like]My Profile
