The Perfect Fall Afternoon: Pumpkin Picking and Carving

in Other

Fall 2014 Bucket ListI shared my Fall Bucket List (<– this post also contains super cute alpacas) with y’all a couple of weeks ago and I am happy to say that I accomplished three things within the span of three hours over the weekend.  That is some professional bucket listing right there, folks!

pumpin patchOn Sunday, Joanna, Erin, and I headed to a local pumpkin patch, Bellevue Berry Farm and Pumpkin Ranch.  It was our first visit for all three of us and we were super excited to get our Fall on.

pumpkin patch 2While it was certainly a chilly day, the clouds in the sky and the crispness of the air were everything that remind me of why I love Fall.  It was a true Sunday in October.

pumpkin patch 7After scoping things out, we all posed next to this super cute wagon and took our obligatory blogger photos.  There is no shame in our game.

pumpkin patch 4We also could not resist doing this.  Who cares if we are in our twenties and love to pretend we are still kids!?

pumpkin patch 5Joanna and I made an attempt at serious faces since we were posing as criminals and all.  I am not sure if we were successful on that one.

pumpkin patch 9After a hayrack ride around the property, it was pumpkin picking time.  There were pumpkins for days.

pumpkin patch 10I had a tough time picking, but ended up with this guy.  We all seemed to gravitate towards the short, chubby pumpkins.   They were just too cute to say no to!

pumpkin patch 12After we each had a pumpkin to take home with us, we decided to stop by the Ranch of Terror.  We were told at the entrance that it was not very scary since it was during the day and needed to be more “kid friendly.”  We survived our adventure through the house and I think we all agreed that it was definitely more “disturbing” than “scary.”

pumpkin carvingAfter we left the pumpkin patch, we headed back to my apartment to carve our pumpkins.

pumpkin carving 2I picked up apple cider over the weekend while I was grocery shopping, so we warmed it up and drank it while we scooped the guts out of the pumpkins.  Guts… what an awful word.  I don’t know about you, but that is mostly definitely my least favorite part of pumpkin carving.

pumpkins 2Somehow I survived the pumpkin goop and ended up with a pretty cute new pumpkin friend.  I am far too impatient to get elaborate with my carving, so I kept things nice and simple.  I love how he looks scared!

pumpkinsI’d say all three of our pumpkins turned out pretty darn good.  They certainly have character, don’t they?

I had a seriously fantastic Fall afternoon with these girls.  It was the perfect way to spend my Sunday!  I checked pumpkin carving, drinking apple cider, and a hayrack ride off of my Bucket List.  Not too shabby if I do say so myself!

treat yourself tuesdayI’m linking up with Becky today for Treat Yourself Tuesday.  Friends, pumpkins, cider, and all things Fall are the perfect treats to me!

Have you been to the pumpkin patch this year?  Have you carved pumpkins?  What design did you go with?

Wow! This fall day sounds like it was so fun. I love fall activities. It's my favorite season by far! Bri | Bites of Bri recently posted...Autumn Arugula Salad with Roasted Acorn SquashMy Profile

It was a blast! I agree that fall activities are super fun and that is probably one of the reasons why it is my favorite season. A close second would be summer. Winter and spring seem to have very few fun activities and are FAR too cold! :(

I saw these photos on Erin's page yesterday. Looks like you ladies had a blast. Now, you three all met through blogging right? If so, that's just awesome!

We sure did! We had all moved to Omaha within about a year of one another and it is still SO cool to be able to say that blogging brought me to my best friends here. It is amazing what the powers of blogging can do!

I feel like it has to be a bit chilly if you are going to a pumpkin patch or else it just isn't right! Love your vest by the way!
    • ClnEatingVegGrl October 14, 2014, 9:31 am
Very true! It would be SO weird to go to a pumpkin patch and have it be 80 degrees ;) And thanks! I have had it for a few years now. I got it at the Gap!

I actually haven't gone pumpkin picking this year because my dad grew some in his garden and he brought me a few to display on the porch. I'm not the best at carving pumpkins. Justin does a much better job, so I leave that up to him. Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat recently posted...Week 36 – Still PregnantMy Profile

I totally know what you mean. My boyfriend carved a picture of a dog on a pumpkin two years ago and I just made a simple jack-o-lantern face. I leave the fancy stuff for other people ;)

Oh, I most definitely could use your help... especially for the homemade bread making part. I've never made a loaf of homemade bread in my life! You are the quite the baker so I am sure you are a pro.

I actually haven't been pumpkin picking yet this year. My son hasn't mentioned it that I am considering we maybe skip. lol. We always buy so many and then they start to rot. I might save the money and invest in a ton of apples to make chocolate covered caramel apples instead : ) meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles recently posted...Cold Weather Workout Essentials 2014My Profile

  • Dana @ fresh simple five October 14, 2014, 8:58 am
How fun! I love carving pumpkins, although my favorite part is roasting the pumpkin seeds. My fall bucket list would look a lot like yours - especially the part about drinking pumpkin beer. Yum! Dana @ fresh simple five recently posted...Easy One-Pan Tomato SauceMy Profile

Yay for pumpkin beer! I have already had one this Fall and I definitely need to get back to the brewery I went to for it because it was SO good!
  • Lish October 14, 2014, 9:39 am
Seeing everyone's pumpkin patch pictures makes me really want to go! Maybe this weekend :)
    • ClnEatingVegGrl October 14, 2014, 4:41 pm
Oh you definitely should!! It's not Fall without a visit to the pumpkin patch, right? Or at least go buy yourself a pumpkin at a grocery store so you can carve one ;)

I am obsessed with plaid shirts right now... which is great because they are EVERYWHERE. I think I am going to go to Old Navy this weekend and stock up on some ;)
  • Leslie @ Life Begins at 30? October 14, 2014, 10:13 am
Your pumpkins are so cute! I decorated pumpkins this year instead of carving. I'm much better with spray paint!
    • ClnEatingVegGrl October 14, 2014, 4:43 pm
Thanks Leslie! And good for you! Decorating pumpkins is actually something that I think I might be worse at... if that is even possible. Maybe I'll try it out though ;)

I love your outfit! You looked so cute!! Now I want to organize a blogger get together. You guys are so good about doing things together!
    • ClnEatingVegGrl October 14, 2014, 4:46 pm
Thanks Sarah! You totally should organize something. Bloggers are great people (not that we are biased or anything) and we all just really GET one another. Plus, you never ever run out of things to talk about ;)
  • Becky @ Olives n Wine October 14, 2014, 1:20 pm
You found the cutest little pumpkin, Hannah! It's the perfect shape :) And I have yet to get to a pumpkin patch this year. I need to find one nearby in Florida... If they have them, haha. Becky @ Olives n Wine recently posted...#57 Treat Yourself TuesdayMy Profile

I'm so jealous of this! My bf and I went on Sunday to a local farm to go apple picking for our anniversary and it was MOBBED. We got stuck in traffic for 20 min just to park the car, then the lines were absolutely insane. We just left after 10 min =/ Patty @ Reach Your Peak recently posted...10 Online Resources To Help You Become A Better RunnerMy Profile

Aww, what a bummer!! I am definitely not a crowd person at all so I probably would have done the exact same thing. It sounds like EVERYONE is in the Fall spirit! Happy Anniversary, by the way! :)
