One-Ingredient Dairy-Free Soft Serve Ice Cream

in Desserts, Other

I don’t know about you, but I love ice cream!  Ice cream from the grocery store, soft-serve ice cream, frozen yogurt…you name it, I love it!  What I do not like is the fat and calories associated with fulfilling my cravings for ice cream.  While this recipe is not the same thing as “real” ice cream, it is a satisfying and healthy snack/dessert that you do not have to feel guilty about eating.  Plus, it is extremely easy to make with only one simple ingredient: a banana (unless, of course, you decide to spice it up with other ingredients).

What You Need:

1 sliced, frozen banana*
a blender (I used a Ninja blender)

*Be sure that your banana is very ripe.  Whenever I have an overly ripe banana that would otherwise get thrown away, I cut it into slices, place it in a plastic bag, and freeze it overnight.

Additional Add-Ins:

natural peanut butter
almond butter
cocoa powder
chocolate chips
protein powder
cinnamon

..and anything else you can think of!

This time I used one frozen banana, 1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter, and a few sprinkles of cinnamon.

Directions

1. Place your frozen banana slices into the blender.

2. Blend the banana using the “pulse” button on your blender.  It will start to look like this:

At this point, keep blending, stopping periodically to push loose banana pieces back near the blade using a spatula.

3. Keep blending until the banana mixture is smooth, creamy, and in the form of soft-serve ice cream.

4. Add in any additional toppings that you desire.  Blend again for 10-20 seconds.

5. Eat!!

Looks like soft-serve ice cream…am I right??

Oh, and just an FYI, you really have to like bananas in order to like this dessert because it definitely tastes like bananas, even with additional mix-ins.  So, so yummy and absolutely ZERO guilt = the perfect treat!

Can't wait to try this, think I even have a anana at home to freeze. I think they have made a specific appliance to do this, think I saw it on QVC not sure.

Yes, I have seen an appliance to make this. But it is definitely not needed if you have a blender.
